It's the season of twinkling lights and colorful fireworks. But no matter how much a part of the Christmas celebration bright lights are, there's always a string of risks attached to these.
So, while we bask in the cool and merry months of the BER season, let us not forget to think about the potential fire hazards that come with the holidays. In today's special supplement, we would like to encourage everyone to put SAFETY FIRST during the holidays.
Here are some tips from www.veco.com.ph to help us avoid fire.
1. Look for the PS (product safety) or ICC (International Code Council) mark when you buy Christmas lights.
2. Keep Christmas trees away from sources of heat.
3. Place wiring for outdoor lighting where animals and pets cannot chew on them.
4. keep combustible materials away from Christmas bulbs or heating sources.
5. Don't use lighting sets with frayed or exposed wiring.
6. Don't overload outlets and extension cords. Avoid octopus connections/overloading.
7. train children not to put things into electrical outlets. Plastic outlet guards are a good idea, especially for homes with small children.
8. Pull the plug, not the cord when unplugging appliances.
9. Don't use firecrackers near electrical lines and transformers.
10. Circuit breakers and fuses should be of the correct size for the circuits.
